Products - Reverse Osmosis

DWG uses Reverse Osmosis to gain high quality fresh drinking water out of seawater. The seawater is pushed under very high pressure (40-70 bar or 600-1000 psi) through a very fine membrane. In this process all solute particles are taken out of the water, including all bacteria, proteins, waterborne pathogens and salt. In this process no chemicals are added.

After Reverse Osmosis the water is ready to be consumed as drinkng water. The drinking water is guaranteed to be of the highest quality and will easily exceed WHO and local standards. The Dutch drinking water quality is DWG's standard.

Reverse Osmosis used to be a very energy intensive process because of the energy that is required for the pumps. With the latest innovations in energy recovery pumps, DWG is able to limit the energy use to only 3,6 kWh per m3 of drinking water.

DWG's recovery rate is around 50%, which means that 10 m3 of seawater is pumped into the system to create 5 m3 of drinking water. The remaining salt water stream, calling brine and containing 6% salt, is pumped back into the sea. DWG's small independent installations only create minimal amounts of brine. The salt levels are back to normal (about 3%) within 10 meters of the outtake. Because of this DWG systems have a minimal impact on the  natural environment.
